Students at JACS are afforded the opportunity to participate in many different activities. Most are for academic enrichment and also provide time for fun and fellowship with students from different schools.
St. Mary Elementary
All students in 3rd-5th grades may participate in the St. Mary’s Youth Basketball League. League play runs from the beginning of January until the first week of March. Teams play other private school teams and a few public school teams from around the area. There is no cost for students to play as this activity is supported by the JACS Booster Club.
Students in 4th and 5th grade participate in the Joplin Globe Spelling Bee as well as regional math contests. They also have enrichment classes after school on alternating weeks.
St. Peter the Apostle Middle School
All students are invited to participate in Quiz Bowl where students compete with seven other schools from the surrounding area throughout the school year. Students practice twice a week with the teacher sponsor. All science students are required to submit a science project at the school level. Winners go on to compete at the district level in the spring at Missouri Southern. Student Council is active at St. Peter’s with representatives from each class planning activities for students throughout the school year. Sixth grade students compete in the Joplin Globe Spelling Bee. Students also have the opportunity to participate on school sponsored basketball, football, track and cheerleading teams.
McAuley Catholic High School
All students may participate in Scholars Bowl where students participate in meets against other 1A schools in the area. Meets occur once a month and practice is once a week during lunch. McAuley has an active Student Council with elected representatives from each class who plan the activities for the school. In addition, McAuley has a very active Campus Ministry, Art Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions group that does various activities throughout the year.
The Math and Science departments join forces to gather students for MCSTM-McAuley Science Technology and Math. McSTEM-McAuley Science, Technology Engineering and Math club meets twice a month and prepares for and participates in various Math and Science competitions such as Moody Mega Math Challenge, Ozark 7 Math-Science Competition, PSU Great Gorilla Games, and PSU Math Relays.
