September 24th commemorates the opening of the first "House of Mercy" in Dublin, Ireland, in 1827, established by Mother Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy. Mother McAuley dedicated her life to serving the poor, the sick, and the uneducated. In 1885, twelve Sisters of Mercy brought Catholic education to Joplin, continuing her legacy of service and compassion. Today, 139 years later, JACS remains committed to upholding the values she instilled.
To honor this legacy, we celebrate Mercy Warrior Activities Week, a series of exciting events made possible through the generous support of Mercy Hospital Joplin. This week is an opportunity to unite as a community while supporting essential programs within the JACS system. Below are some key events that will be part of the celebration:
Third Annual Golf Tournament - Friday, September 20th
Sponsored by Club 609, Linda Williams and Steve Williams, and Kristie and Curt Crossland, this sold-out event will take place at Schifferdecker Golf Course with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. While foursomes are fully booked, hole sponsorships are still available through the event website.2024 Warrior Dash - Sunday, September 22nd
Hosted by St. Mary’s Home & School, the Warrior Dash at the Eastern Shawnee Wellness Center in Wyandotte will include a 5K and 1-mile race. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and races will kick off at 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in the 5K and the top individual in the 1-mile race. All participants will receive a t-shirt, and sponsorship opportunities are available. Register through the event website.Faculty Cook-Off - Tuesday, September 24th
Come out and sample delicious dishes prepared by JACS faculty members. Tickets are $10 per person, and proceeds will go towards cash prizes for the top five finishers, to be used for their classrooms. St. Peter's middle school students, led by Mrs. Chirafasi, will also present a “Living Library,” where students bring characters from their favorite novels to life. Our McAuley Volleyball team will be in McAuley Gymnasium taking on Thomas Jefferson. This evening promises to be an engaging evening of food, learning, and fun!JACS Business Office Open House - Thursday, September 26th
Take a tour of the newly upgraded St. Peter’s STEM classroom and meet the business office team. The open house will run from 2-5 p.m., offering light refreshments and the chance to learn more about the school’s business operations.Mercy Day Mass & Pep Rally - Friday, September 27th
Join Bishop Rice and the JACS community for a special Mercy Day Mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, where all students (K-12) will come together to celebrate. Following the Mass, a JACS pep rally will be held at McAuley Gymnasium.JACS Community Service Project - Friday, September 27th
Families are invited to participate in a service project in collaboration with the City of Joplin, beautifying the entrance to Mercy Park by planting mums. This project is made possible through the generous support of the JACS Booster Club mums fundraiser.JACS Alumni Social - Friday, September 27th
Calling all alumni! Reconnect with old friends during a happy hour at Club 609, featuring 2-for-1 drink specials from 2-5 p.m.Booster Club Trivia Night - Saturday, September 28th
Doors open at 6 p.m. for a night of fun trivia, prizes, and socializing. Your ticket includes dinner, and a cash bar will be available. Additional highlights include a 50/50 raffle and the popular dessert dash. Visit the event website to register.
